Plus, if you want to integrate your favorite pedals into your Amp1 setup, you can use the Remote1 with the Looperkit to quickly and easily create a fully programmable switching system featuring four true bypass relay loops. Even in mono, the room simulation adds a bit of depth and dimension to the sound, in keeping with the needs of the genre. And they're tough enough to stand up to the rigours of a professional tour. Get your head around this, and dialling in the sound you want is easy. As for sounds, I have it in low gain mode and like to use a ts style for gain boost. A second switchable and adjustable Master Volume can also be set up.

If you need a guaranteed delivery date, you must select an expedited shipping method either next-day air or two-day air during checkout. The circuitry of many tube amps traditionally used with heavy distortion in the metal genre could just about cope with the extra bass inherent in a 'drop-D', but anything lower usually required the use of a pedal like a Tube Screamer to shave off a bit of the low end before it could hit the amp. Whilst the latter operate on the preamp signal, Resonance and Presence are in the feedback loop of the power amp. I have to leave for my last gig for a while in 30 minutes. I set my clean channel to have the max gain available while my overdrive channels are at about 70% which works well for me for both humbuckers and single coils. The modern channel provides plenty of gain and a wide variety of sounds, from a warm creamy tone for singing leads to the total opposite world of modern metal sounds.

I've used a couple of cabs with mine, but the one I use the most is an old Egnater Tweaker 1x12 open-back that has a Celestion Gold in it. The Clean channel has a pleasing springy response, which can be tweaked using the custom control to flatter humbuckers and single coils alike, with rich harmonics and a treble response that can be bright but never shrill or tiring to the ear. The modern metal genre has seen tunings go from the widespread use of 'drop-D', on to 'drop-C', and further, right down to 'drop-A', as well as the advent of seven-string guitars, which generally have a low-B string. Haven't tried it any other method. If you are playing a part that moves from one to the other, as most real playing does, then you have an optimum setting available underfoot. You can turn the side tone knobs to set the character of the gain.

It kinda sounded like I was changing to a different amps as I switched from clean to crunch to lead. All the channels have been fine-tuned, to give a tighter overdrive sound that still retains punch and attack, and offers a range of tone from clean to high-gain rock with a lot of good stuff in-between and the reverb algorithm has also been updated. Other connections include a speaker-emulated line-out that can also drive headphones, eight- and 16-ohm speaker jacks, and a socket for a footswitch. Funny is that lowering the mids had most effect on this, more than lowering the treble. I use my Line6 Helix Floor for effects both in front and loop but also to change between presets and toggle fx on the Amp 1. And my drives are from pedals.

When Paul tested the original, the Vintage channel was the only one that he really gravitated towards, but now all three drive options seem more usable and responsive, and the Classic is particularly addictive. We are musicians ourselves and share your passion for making it. The Modern channel is obviously this unit's signature sound: tight, dense, slightly mid-scooped distortion, with just the right amount of resonant, low-end thump to make palm-muted 'chug' rhythm parts and riffs work as they should. The Remote1 houses nine programmable footswitches, enabling all your custom amp and pedal setups to be saved in up to four Banks, each holding nine presets. So let's find out what's changed. On the other hand, the idea is that this is a one time setup, and you leave it there. And talking of levels, if you find you are never able to turn up your Amp1 as far as you'd like to, another of the 'hidden' functions on these units, in addition to preset mode, is the ability to boot into 50W mode — just power up whilst holding down the left-hand footswitch and you are there.

It's also worth mentioning the reverb, which has a more realistic, spacious character than the original. But I will buy a Mercury, because it's supposed to have slightly tighter low end on the Vintage channel. If he can add a little more tweakability to vintage channel and fix the sound drop out on switching, I'd buy again. I have a couple cabinets that I've used with the Amp 1. I also think it would be great for stereo effects running a tube head dry and effects out to amp1 into 1x12. If I want biting metal tones I turn them to around 7 or more. I'm still looking for a good 1x12 for it, using a home build cab with a katana speaker now. This new incarnations of Amp1 make an already excellent design better still. Sounds great for such a small cabinet. Just came in and I've had about 2 hours solid with it.

Ok, if the gig doesn't get rained out I'll have more to share tomorrow! I bought the amp1 but later returned it. The direct-recording output of the Amp1 series, which can also be used with headphones, employs an entirely analogue speaker-simulator. By itself, an acoustic guitar works just fine on the clean channel with the side control to the right. This channel has been improved for a wider dynamic range to get more expression for leads and more tightness for metal riffs. It rolls off lots of spiky highs.
